Seaside Native Plant Palette Surrounds Silicon Beach Contemporary

The short walk to the beach feels less necessary, when your own garden mimics its charms! Frequently featured on the Native Plant Garden Tour, its patios of sand colored gravel give a beachy feel and definition to the outdoor living spaces.

Each aspect of this coastal garden supports the health of those who use it as well as the nearby ocean. Inspired by nearby coastal bluffs and wetlands, the garden property features a wide array of plants native to LA’s beach communities. The front garden, including the IdealMow lawn and parkway, use up to 75 percent less water than traditional gardens and need no chemical fertilizers or pesticides to thrive. It beautifully saves the health of sea life – including surfers!

Forbes Magazine featured the garden’s expansive, warmly modern outdoor kitchen and dining patio as an example of top trends in outdoor living.

Cassy Aoyagi… acknowledges the strong
nature connection, too, especially for cooking. “What we see now is increased interest
in having edibles integrated into gardens, particularly in areas close to their
outdoor kitchens,” she shares. “This has
taken the form of grape vine fencing
and raised beds where grabbing herbs
for the table requires just a step or two.”

Garden Tour, Granada Hills

A garden for the future generations

March 2016. This rustic natural open space entices people to wander the full landscape. A flowing decomposed granite trail passes under a forrest of mature frees, through an IdealMow meadow, and past dry river and native plant beds. there is also ample room for rest and entertainment in the BBQ Bar and Outdoor Lounge.

The owners aimed to provide a garden that would delight their children and grandchildren and placed a priority on expanding tree canopy and habitat.

The serenity evoked by the garden goes beyond its extraordinary beauty. Inspired by nearby mountain wildspaces, this garden provides habitat for a wide spectrum of native birds, butterflies and fauna. Native foliage, a dry river and bioswale produce dramatic water and energy savings.
