Learn How Landscape Choices Can Save Air, Water – and Fire Danger

Join us during the Sierra Madre Wellness Fair to expand collaborative community work that prepares Sierra Madre for wildfire. The Sierra Madre Fire Department, Sierra Madre Community Foundation and FormLA Landscaping invite to the Sierra Madre Post Office to explore, contribute and learn. Together, we’ll:

• Highlight what it means to be designated a high fire severity zone.
• Tour of the Wildfire Defensive Garden at the Sierra Madre Post Office, learning how the expanding Zone 0 and fire-resilient foliage of the gardens also supports human and environmental health and wellness.
• Take steps to maintain the garden that mirror steps residents can take to prepare their own homes, including, removing leaf and other litter from Zone 0 and the bioswale, applying compost grade mulch, and weeding-out arson grasses traveling in from the adjacent lot.

We recommend wearing sturdy shoes, sunscreen and hats. Refreshments, tools, hope, joy, and wildfire preparation resources will be provided!
