For Wildfire Community Preparedness Day 2025, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) highlights the importance of preparing the first five feet around the home, known as “Zone Zero.” This simple landscape feature can profoundly impact a property’s safety – so much so that it even improves the safety of neighboring properties. That’s amazing!
What does look and feel like to have one? Here are a few of our favorite examples.
Those now within Cal Fire’s newly reconfigured fire severity zones will soon be required to keep this area free of flammable materials. Beyond what’s required, we think an effective Zone 0 can benefit and beautify any property in LA! Here’s what it means to have a prepared Zone 0, how to get started, and how we prefer to maintain these spaces.
