Over the last nine years, the Net Zero Conference has brought together those who understand it takes all of us to overcome climate change. This year, FormLA President Cassy Aoyagi will join Kimley-Horn’s Gary J. Lai and Morpho Energy’s Colin Mangham to advocate for nature based solutions in the building industry.

The three aim to draw attention to ways the building industries can regenerate the natural world. While the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification has helped make buildings more sustainable, the effects of climate change have outpaced its success.

The green building movement must now look beyond the walls of structures to how a building interacts and reacts to the surrounding site, neighborhood, city and environment. The Nature-based Services (NbS) model promotes truly regenerative projects. The green building movement will need to as well if it is to mitigate the impacts of climate change and to heal the natural world.
