How can we best plan for increasing fire risk while cooling and beautifying our cities? What does the science say about vegetation and urban fire?
Join co-hosts TreePeople, LA Urban Center, Council for Watershed Health, CAL FIRE Urban & Community Forestry Program, the U.S. Forest Service Angeles National Forest Unit, and FormLA Landscaping for a one-day symposium and garden tour. We’ll hear researchers, community leaders, fire fighters and building professionals examine ways we can create greater resilience in fire-prone communities.
Our own Cassy Aoyagi will cover how to save trees as you create lush, leafy, fire-defensive space on a panel moderated by Firewise USA’s Gabriel Abarian and including Resource Conservation District of the Santa Monica Mountains’ Clark Stevens, and LA County Fire Department’s Alex Villalta. City of Sierra Madre Management Analyst James Carlson will be among the community experts leading in-garden tours in the city’s two defensible space demonstration gardens.
